A Short Meditation to Feel More Grounded & Calm

Lots of people I have spoken to in my yoga classes, my 1 to 1 clients and just out and about in general lately have mentioned that they need to feel more grounded. Life can be chaotic and it is so important that we find time to come back to centre and feel settled in whatever is happening around us. I thought I would share one of my favourite quick grounding meditations to help you feel more grounded , supported and to help you keep your calm if life feels a little crazy.

This is a really easy practice and can be done anywhere, whether you take time to sit quietly or even standing and waiting in a queue. It doesn't need to take long although if you have more time to rest into it that can be lovely too.

Connecting With Your Roots Meditation

  • Sit or lay comfortably. Let yourself settle into yourself. Feel your breath, feel the sensations of your body. Simply be with yourself in this moment.

  • After some time, become aware of the points where your body meets the floor. Feel your connection to the earth through your body. Even if you are upstairs, be aware that through the floor and the walls they stand on you are connected to the earth.

  • Feel the gentle draw of gravity, pulling you into the support of the earth. Give yourself permission to me supported, held.

  • Imagine that you have roots going from your body down into the earth. Beautiful strong roots growing down into the earth. Feel them reach and spread out effortlessly. Let them grow as far down as feels right.

  • Once you feel your roots have settled into the earth, imagine as you breathe in that you are drawing goodness up from the earth, feel in nourish you, let this goodness spread and settle within you.

  • As you breathe out, imagine letting go of anything that is not serving you, feel your body relax with your exhale.

  • Stay with this as long as feels right.

I hope you find this helpful. Let me know how you get on with it.
