What Happens in a Yoga Therapy Session?

A yoga therapy session typically begins with an assessment of the your physical and emotional wellbeing, as well as your lifestyle and any health conditions you may have. During this initial session, I will take time to understand your needs and goals and work collaboratively with you to create a personalised plan for treatment. This will involve setting clear goals for our time together, and discussing which practices and techniques would be most effective for you.

Once goals have been established, we will work together to explore different yoga practices that may benefit you. These practices may include physical postures (asana), breathing exercises (pranayama), meditation, or relaxation techniques, depending on your needs and preferences. I will guide you through each practice, ensuring it is done correctly and safely. Within this time you will have space to explore each practice and in doing so gain a better understanding of yourself and your situation.

Finally, we will work together to create a manageable plan for you to continue to build on the benefits of the therapy between sessions. This may involve providing instructions for specific practices or routines to be worked on at home, as well as offering guidance on how to integrate yoga into your daily life.

During subsequent sessions, we will review your progress and adjust your treatment plan as needed. This may involve modifying or adding practices to better meet your needs and goals. I will also provide ongoing support and guidance, answering any questions you may have and offering feedback and encouragement as you continue to explore and deepen your practice.

Overall, yoga therapy is a collaborative process that emphasises your unique needs and goals. By working together, we can create a customised plan for treatment that is tailored to your specific needs and empowers you to take an active role in your own health and wellbeing.
